With Second Million-Dollar Kickstarter, Reaper Miniatures Sets Record

The second campaign for Reaper Miniature Bones is just a week in at the time of writing, but already the campaign has raised almost $1.5 million on Kickstarter.

This is especially remarkable when considering the first campaign for these small gaming miniatures raised over $3.4 million. This makes Reaper Miniatures the most successful two-time Kickstarter alumnus, having surpassed Double Fine Productions’s total of about $4.5 million for their two games.

Reaper Miniatures just got done delivering the over 7 million gaming miniatures to backers of the first campaign in August of this year.

Not bad for a company that started as a hobby out of a garage in 1992…

When we started we were just four people with a dream of getting into their favorite hobby. When we came home from the day jobs, we would go to the garage and start casting figures all night until it was time to head back to the day jobs. It didn’t take us long to figure out that we were having way more fun in the garage than at our day jobs. On July 4th, 1992, we decided to take the hobby full-time, and we’ve been making the best minis and hobby accessories the world has ever seen!

Interestingly, the Reaper Minis team shares some insight into what they may have learned from their first campaign, specifically in regards to keeping pledge levels simple. From the campaign page…

We’ve learned a lot since we fulfilled our first Bones Kickstarter project, so you won’t find as many pledge levels. Turns out that most of you just wanted the core set with the potential to expand over time. What this Kickstarter will do is add 30 more models: character models, new sculpts, and monsters. After we hit our goal, we have plans to make the value of your pledge grow.

So there are essentially two pledge levels: $1 and $100. However, very few are actually pledging $1. You can check the campaign page for prices, pledge that amount and specify what you bought. It’s pretail at its finest. a $100 pledge nabs claim to a “core set” of dozens of miniatures, but contributors can again add to that pledge to secure optional extras.
