Virtuix & Hero Entertainment form Significant Joint Venture to Bring Omni to China & US

Virtuix by Omni in ActionVirtuix, creators of the Omni platform that pairs active virtual reality to games and more, has formed a joint venture with Hero Entertainment, creators of the largest first-person shooter (FPS) game in China.  This is a significant deal for Virtuix as it opens up the rather large Chinese market by partnering with a billion dollar Chinese gaming group.  According to information provided by Virtuix, Hero will invest in the JV through its eSports affiliate, Hero Sports,  the owner of Hero Pro League, China’s biggest professional mobile eSports league.  Virtuix is currently raising capital on SeedInvest under Reg A+ so the timing of the news should give their offer a bit of a pop.

Jan GoetgelukJan Goetgeluk, Virtuix’s founder and CEO, said VR will be bigger and take off faster more than anyplace else.

“With the Hero deal, we are teaming up with China’s premier FPS developer. Their content combined with our Omni motion platform provides an unbeatable Active VR experience that we predict will take the China market by storm.”

Virtuix states that Hero Sports will add VR eSports featuring the Virtuix Omni to its Hero Pro League. The venture will also convert Crisis Action, China’s most popular real-time, multiplayer FPS game, to VR gameplay with the Omni. Crisis Action has more than 400 million registered players.

Daniel Wu, Hero’s President, said gamers love FPS games and the Virtuix Omni is a “necessary platform” to play in VR.

“We are excited to enter China’s rapidly growing VR market together with Virtuix and to make the Omni available to our millions of players,”stated Wu.

Virtuix 1Apparently, the JV has already signed up its first customer: UNIS, one of China’s largest suppliers of amusement machines, intends to purchase 5,000 to 10,000 Omni units for sale to arcades and entertainment centers.

Last week Virtuix announced a strategic investment by Leyard, a multi-billion-dollar, publicly listed Beijing firm. Leyard, whose sales networks extend to entertainment centers, shopping malls,
and theme parks, will become an important customer and partner of the joint venture. Dr. Victor Li, Chairman of Leyard, said the Virtuix Omni solved the problem of movement in virtual reality.

“We are thrilled to invest in Virtuix and look forward to working with the Virtuix team and their joint venture partner to build a strong VR leadership position in China and beyond.”

Virtuix’s investment crowdfunding round is still accepting investors and is scheduled to close on July 31st.  The Series A funding is said to have raised over $6 million from various investors including 1,300 smaller investors going through the offer on SeedInvest.
